Thirteen years ago, we purchased a new home, thrilled by the idea of a fresh start in a house with “no problems.” The first fall, however, we discovered an issue we hadn’t anticipated. The beautiful oak trees surrounding our property did what oak trees do in the fall—drop their leaves.
It only took a few leaves to cover the small drain in our walkout basement. When the seasonal rains came, the clogged drain caused water to back up and seep under the basement door, flooding our wonderful new space.
